The Premier League has confirmed why Arsenal winger Noni Madueke was not sent off for violent conduct when he and Alexis Mac Allister clashed during Liverpool's defeat to the Gunners at Anfield on Sunday.

A post on the official social media channels for the Premier League's communications reads: "The referee’s call of no violent conduct by Madueke on Mac Allister was checked and confirmed by VAR."

The VAR stated that: "All of the situations have been checked and cleared. There is some contact as Madueke and Mac Allister square up. In my opinion, it's not forceful, not violent, not brutal."

Arsenal won the points through a Kai Havertz goal in the first half. The German poked home at the far post when Liverpool was unable to block the cross or cut it out.

"This means a lot to the whole football club," Havertz said on Sky Sports at full-time.

"It's been 14 years (since Arsenal last won at Anfield). That is a crazy stat and I think that we are all happy that we gave it to them today.

"I think we all know what this stadium is about and what the fans are about. Liverpool have big players and they can show their quality.

"We knew that this was coming for us and we all stuck together and defended together. Ninety per cent of the goal belongs to Declan Rice."

The win puts Arsenal top of the standings, with Liverpool now nine points behind the Gunners. Any talk of a title charge for Andoni Iraola's side has been quashed.

"It was perfection from Arsenal from a defensive point of view," former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5Live.

"If someone didn't win a challenge, the one behind them did. They covered, pressed, organised and communicated across the back line.

"It was a masterclass in how to frustrate a team, how to sit in and defend your goal."

Liverpool has matches with Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace to come before the November international break. It returns with its next game at Anfield against Manchester United.
