Chelsea and Manchester City launch ‘bidding war’ for striker – €50m starting price

Nicolo Tresoldi has become a potent striker in the last two seasons and has now attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.

Sport Witness have tracked how several English clubs are keen on the Club Brugge star. Arsenal have been one of them, even though sources in Germany have rejected the idea of a sale in January.

The Belgian club’s stance is said to be key in all this. They have no plans of a sale in the middle of the season and intend to execute a club record sale in the summer.

Despite that, Tresoldi’s situation continues to attract attention, with Manchester City and Chelsea firmly in the race.

Club Brugge eyeing capital gain

La Stampa report that Tresoldi is constantly in the middle of battles for his services, at both club and country level. Both Italy and Germany continue to be in the hunt for his signature but nothing has been decided yet.

The newspaper note that the line of suitors for him at club level is also growing quickly.

Club Brugge have received requests for information from both Manchester City and Chelsea. The two Premier League giants want to go into a ‘bidding war’ for his signature and are ahead of both Juventus and AC Milan in the chase.

The newspaper point out that a bidding war can soon be underway for Tresoldi. This will likely price out Italian clubs, with Club Brugge valuing the forward at €50m right now.

But that is only the ‘starting price’ and depending on how he performs, this will likely go up soon.

Our take: Too early to call

Club Brugge’s progress in the Champions League in the last two years puts them in a good spot, when it comes to asking a big price for players. This allowed them to sell Christos Tzolis for a major fee and the same can hold true for Tresoldi.

He recently scored a historic hat-trick for them against Inter Milan, helping them to a 4-3 win. Performances like that take valuations to another level and there is indeed a chance Club Brugge earn a record fee from the sale.

Physically, the 23-year-old is a specimen and he has a real nose for goal too.

This makes him a good fit for the Premier League, which is reason enough for Manchester City and Chelsea to stay in the hunt.
