Good harmony in the dressing room has been one of the key factors that has helped FC Barcelona enjoy such a high level of success in the last two seasons. Almost all the players obviously play for the team and the camaraderie between them is there for everyone to see.
However, this does not mean that every player is happy with the current state of affairs. One player who must be particularly unhappy would be the fullback Alejandro Balde, who has lost a lot of prominence in the last few months. Since last January, he has not only lost his starting spot to Joao Cancelo, but this season he has become one of the most under-utilized players for Hansi Flick.
In fact, some reports suggest that he is contemplating a move in the upcoming winter transfer window, with several big European clubs interested in him. But for the time being, his situation at Barcelona remains precarious as [Flick kept him on the bench for the game against Alaves](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/official-barcelona-name-starting-xi-for-deportivo-alaves-clash-la-liga/).
As [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20261102/1004246288/flick-hable-balde-e-intento-ayudarle-recuperar-confianza.html) has reported, the German coach was asked about the Spanish fullback as he addressed the press ahead of the Champions League game against Aston Villa. The Barcelona manager assured that this was a decision motivated only by the best interests of the team:
**“What he is going through is normal. When you don’t play regularly, you lack confidence. I see him training well, but we have to make the decisions that are best for the team, and Joao Cancelo is performing at a very high level. This is not about any individual or about me; I am focused on the team.**
**When I say he has less confidence, I know that can affect him, and I spoke to him after the last press conference. I have a lot of respect for him. He is young, but he is a great person and a very hard worker. I am trying to help him regain his confidence. He is working to get back to his previous level.”**
There is no doubt that Alejandro Balde could prove to be a very useful asset for Flick, especially at a time when the German coach is without several of his important defenders. However, the Spaniard has still been unable to make the coach give him playing opportunities, and with every passing match, it is becoming increasingly clear that the best way forward for him would be to join another side where he can play more regularly and get back to his best level.
