'I don't care': Peter Schmeichel makes bold Arsenal title claim after 1-0 win vs Liverpool

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has made his Premier League title prediction on Arsenal following their 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The Gunners produced a superb defensive display against the Reds yesterday. They scored an early 16th-minute goal through Kai Havertz and defended splendidly thereafter.

Jurrien Timber was fortunate not to concede a penalty for holding Alexander Isak’s shirt, but aside from that incident, the Gunners had a relatively good game at the back.

The hosts were restricted to zero shots on target, which was the first time they had done so in the Premier League era. Shortly after the game, Schmeichel made a bold title claim.

Speaking to ViaPlay, the legendary United goalkeeper said he does not care about the manner of the victory and added that he can’t see anyone challenging Arsenal in the title race.

He said: “Today’s performance, to come here and win 1-0. I don’t care about the manner. We can discuss that. and we have done that for two years now. Now they are winners. I can’t see anyone with that squad and what he has available to him, Arteta, who can challenge this team.”

Arsenal secure handy advantage

The Gunners have moved three points clear of second-placed Manchester City after the weekend’s result. The Cityzens started the season brightly but have suffered back-to-back losses.

Mikel Arteta’s side now have a handy and slender advantage over the Mancunian outfit, but their rivals could still receive a hefty points deduction for breaching Premier League rules.

This would leave Brighton & Hove Albion as Arsenal’s closest challengers. The Seagulls are five points adrift of the top, while Chelsea and Liverpool trail by eight and nine points respectively.

The Gunners still have a long way to go in their title defence, and the onus is on the players to avoid complacency and keep winning to extend the club’s advantage at the summit.

Arsenal could pile the pressure on Man City on Saturday. They play first against Hull City at the Emirates Stadium and could be six points ahead before Enzo Maresca’s side face Nottingham Forest away.

Forest may be languishing in the drop zone but could provide a stern test for the Cityzens. The Tricky Trees have picked up four points in the last three league meetings, including a win at City Ground.
