Chelsea Plot Defensive Rebuild
Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as they look to strengthen their backline. Following a 2-0 win over Manchester United, the Blues look like genuine top-five contenders, but further reinforcements could be needed to challenge Arsenal and Manchester City.
Alonso to Hold Private Talks
TEAMtalk claims Xabi Alonso is set to speak directly with the France international about Chelsea’s interest. The Blues have long admired Kounde, having tracked him during his Sevilla days before he moved to the Camp Nou.
Why Kounde Could Leave Barcelona
Kounde has been left on the bench recently, with Hansi Flick favouring Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi in central defence, and Joao Cancelo and Xavi Espart elsewhere. That reduced role could make a Premier League switch appealing.
What Kounde Offers Chelsea
At 27, the defender is composed in possession and distributes well from the back. Defensively, he is quick, tackles accurately and holds his own in physical duels despite his modest height. Valued at around £46million by Transfermarkt, he would offer top-level experience and plenty of prime years.
Could Kounde Fit Alonso’s Plans?
Kounde’s versatility across the back line would be a real asset for Chelsea. He may well seek assurances over his role before committing, so it will be fascinating to see how Alonso plans to use him. Given Chelsea’s title ambitions, a signing of this calibre in 2027 would send a clear statement of intent.
