Arsenal continue to strengthen their position in the Premier League title race after securing an important victory over Liverpool at the weekend. The result ended their long wait for a league win at Anfield, where they had not won since 2012.
Liverpool are among Arsenal’s title rivals, so the match was expected to be a difficult test for Mikel Arteta’s side. However, the Gunners handled the occasion and claimed three valuable points, showing they can deliver under pressure.
The victory could prove significant as the campaign develops. Arsenal remain among the country’s leading clubs and will aim to compete in every competition, although they must maintain their form to finish the season successfully.
Gerrard continues to back Arsenal
Manchester City are also expected to provide a serious challenge, meaning Arsenal cannot afford to become complacent. Nevertheless, winning at Anfield has given them an important result against one of their title rivals.
Steven Gerrard is not surprised, as he has considered the Gunners title favourites since the beginning of the season. The former Liverpool captain has not changed his assessment and continues to believe they can win the league.

Anfield result could prove decisive
Speaking via the Metro, Gerrard explained why he believes Arsenal could look back on the victory as a defining moment if they eventually become champions.
‘And they (Arsenal) will know that come the end of the season, if they win the league, which I think they will, I haven’t changed my mind from the beginning of the season, they will look back at that more than your four or five-nils where they look fantastic, because I’m sure they will at times.
‘They’ll look at that and think, we went to Anfield, tough crowd to play against, tough Liverpool performance, Andoni Iraola’s got this Liverpool team playing an awful lot better, Liverpool played well and we managed to get out of there with three points.’
Gerrard believes difficult away victories can carry particular importance during a title campaign. Arsenal will hope to build on this result and maintain the consistency required to finish the season as champions.
