Chelsea have plenty of reasons to keep an eye on Strasbourg’s results, not least because of the progress of several loanees, former players and transfer targets. Filip Jorgensen, Dario Essugo and Genesis Antwi are all on loan at the Ligue 1 club.

Former Chelsea youngsters Deivid Washington and Omari Kellyman joined Strasbourg permanently this summer. Meanwhile, the Blues’ scouting department will be keeping an eye on which players could make the move from northeastern France to West London.

One of Chelsea’s transfer targets caught the eye in Strasbourg’s 5-1 victory over Auxerre on Sunday. The Blues will also have been encouraged by Essugo’s performance at the Stade de la Meinau.

Romeo Lavia or Alex Scott? Who would Moises Caicedo rather start alongside and why?

Lavia please he believably a better option

I would really, really like to see Scott play alongside Caicedo but maybe that’s a grass is always greener approach.

If it was a level playing field, Lavia. But given his fitness issues, it's got be Scott regularly? Nice headache to have!

Dario Essugo and Gessime Yassine shine in Strasbourg’s 5-1 win

Dario Essugo opened the scoring for Strasbourg in the 41st minute with a shot from the edge of the box. Aside from his goal, Essugo also delivered a complete performance, making five tackles and one interception.

However, Chelsea target Gessime Yassine stole the show against Auxerre with an exceptional display. Yassine is a similar player to Blues fan favourite Estevao Willian and has been tipped to move to Stamford Bridge next summer.

Yassine should have scored with a header from point-blank range in the opening minutes, but he was almost faultless thereafter. He assisted Martial Godo for Strasbourg’s second goal before winning a penalty with a mazy run to set up their third.

Dario Essugo 7 381 2 1

The Morocco international then scored twice, first with a left-footed shot from the middle of the penalty area and then with a close-range header. Yassine also forced Auxerre midfielder Lamfia Dioubate to be sent off for a violent challenge after nutmegging him.

Chelsea do not necessarily need another left-footed right winger, with Estevao, Pedro Neto, Geovany Quenda and Cole Palmer already in the first-team squad. However, Yassine might be too good to pass up if he maintains this form throughout the season.

The 20-year-old now has four goals and three assists in nine Ligue 1 appearances in 2026/27. Only Lassine Sinayoko (13), Florian Thauvin (11), Amine Gouiri (9) and Elye Wahi (8) have more goal contributions than Yassine, who has seven.
