Gustavo Varela joined Monza from Benfica B this season and has quickly established himself as one of the standout performers in Serie A. His impressive displays have reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal, who are monitoring his progress.
The striker has been outstanding in the Italian top flight, and his performances suggest that Monza could struggle to keep him if interest from bigger clubs continues to grow. Several top sides are reportedly considering a move for the youngster.
Arsenal have a strong interest in recruiting talented young players, particularly those who demonstrate exceptional ability at an early stage of their careers. Varela has certainly attracted attention with his performances since the beginning of the campaign.
Arsenal face competition for Varela
The striker has scored nine goals in as many Serie A appearances, an impressive return that has made him one of the most exciting prospects in Italian football this season.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing him, but Fussball News reports they face competition from Tottenham and Chelsea, with both London clubs also following his progress closely.
Although the campaign is still at an early stage, Varela appears capable of reaching double figures in the near future. His goalscoring record is particularly impressive considering he is playing for a smaller club rather than one of Italy’s established giants.

Summer move could be more realistic
A January transfer to the Emirates Stadium may prove difficult to complete, particularly if Monza are reluctant to lose such an important player midway through the season.
However, a summer move could become a realistic possibility if Varela maintains his current form and continues scoring regularly.
Arsenal will undoubtedly face competition if his performances attract further attention, but his age, goalscoring ability and impressive start to life in Italy make him an interesting prospect. The Gunners could consider making their move at the end of the campaign.
