Manchester United academy prospect JJ Gabriel has indicated a clear preference for Real Madrid over Barcelona, dealing a blow to the Catalans’ attempts to secure one of English football’s most highly rated young talents.
The recently turned 16-year-old attacker, who has attracted interest from several European clubs, made his position clear during an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca while visiting the Spanish capital.
Asked to choose between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Gabriel did not hesitate, saying: “Barcelona or Real Madrid? Obviously, Real Madrid.”
The youngster also revealed his ambitions for the future, making clear that he has his sights set on the highest individual honours in football. “My dream is to win a Ballon d’Or,” he said.

His comments come amid reports that a move to Real Madrid is progressing, with the transfer close to completion.
It is to be remembered that Barcelona had identified the teenager as one of the most exciting prospects available and held several meetings with his representatives through sporting director Deco.
The Catalans attempted to convince the youngster that joining La Masia would offer the ideal environment for his development.
However, the financial demands of the operation also complicated Barcelona’s pursuit, with the club eventually withdrawing from the competition.

Real Madrid have since moved into a stronger position, even reaching a verbal agreement with Gabriel over a potential move, with the intention of bringing him to the club during the January transfer window.
Barcelona admitted defeat
Barcelona were among a number of suitors, including Bayern Munich and PSG, who held talks with the player’s representatives, but the sporting directive offered by Real Madrid made all the difference.
Indeed, it can be argued that Barcelona boasts a better youth academy, but financial considerations also made a big difference.
This is because any move for the 16-year-old would have cost them millions, and it is quite understandable why the Catalan club decided to give up
