Sky Sports Germany has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain have submitted a formal offer to sign one Liverpool summer targets.
PSG and Liverpool will face each other in this season’s UEFA Champions League round of 16. The Reds travel to Parc des Princes for the first leg before a return leg at Anfield a week later.
The winner of the two-legged tie will face Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the next round.
Arne Slot’s side has fared very well in the Champions League so far, with their return of seven wins and one loss making them the best team in the league phase.
However, they face a resurgent PSG side that are unbeaten in their last 22 games and have won their last ten in all competitions.
PSG’s battle with Liverpool does not end on the football pitch, though. Away from the pitch, both sides are battling for the signature of one of Europe’s top stars, and it appears that the French side is ahead in the race.
The player in question is Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.
Liverpool are considering a summer move for the German, whose current deal at Bayern Munich expires this summer.
The Reds are among a host of other clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, interested in the midfielder.
However, the latest report from Germany is that PSG have sent in a written offer for Kimmich.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the French giants have offered the 30-year-old a relatively long-term deal till 2029.
“Paris Saint-Germain have submitted an official written offer to Joshua Kimmich,” Plettenberg wrote.
“PSG are offering him a top contract until 2029. The offer is on the table but has neither been accepted nor rejected by Kimmich so far.”
PSG’s four-year contract offer is one Liverpool may be unwilling to match, given the club’s policy that is focused on younger players. But there is no denying that the Reds want the German international, who continues to be an important player for his club.
Plettenberg also revealed that there have been positive talks between Kimmich and the Bayern hierarchy over extending his deal.
“In the last 48 hours, there have been further positive discussions between Max Eberl and Kimmich, with Kimmich once again signalling his willingness to extend his contract,” the journalist added. ”
New talks are set to take place starting Thursday.”
