As the Celtics have played some of their best ball of late, their G League counterparts are enjoying similar success. The Maine Celtics went 7-1 in February during regular-season games as they’re looking to get back to the G League Finals.
As a result of their success, the C’s picked up multiple awards for February. Two-way guard JD Davison was named the G League Player of the Month after averaging 28.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.8 steals in six games for the Maine Celtics. Maine coach Tyler Lashbrook was also named the G League Coach of the Month.
Davison is the first C’s player to earn the monthly award since Luka Samanic during the 2022-23 season. Lashbrook is the first Maine Celtics coach ever to earn his monthly award. The Maine Celtics are currently 16-10 and third in the Eastern Conference after winning 10 of their last 11 games.
Davison, 22, has enjoyed success this year, becoming Maine’s all-time leading scorer in franchise history. The third-year pro was picked 53rd overall in the 2022 draft by the Celtics as he’s developed mostly behind the scenes since then. This is third straight year being on a two-way deal with the Celtics. Davison also took part in the NBA’s All-Star weekend, playing for the G League squad in the Rising Stars event.
In 38 games in the G League, Davison is averaging 25.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game, shooting 48.6% from the floor and 32.6% on 3-pointers. He recently got some surprise rotation minutes with the big club against the Raptors.
