Ange Postecoglou has been fortifying the North Londoners’ interest in bringing in a new forward in the upcoming summer window as the Australian head coach looks to add offensive flair and depth to his roster, and Tottenham Hotspur has been looking to make a move for highly touted wide forward Ademola Lookman.
Lookman has been playing some exceptional football for Atalanta for a while, and his development with the Serie A giants has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, alongside Tottenham.
Lookman can take the limelight from Son
Newcastle United enter race for Tottenham target Ademola Lookman.
Tottenham will be looking at a summer move for Ademola Lookman.
Ange Postecoglou loves his wide wingers. Ake on their places and creates solutions in a stable final third play while also possessing that pace and power to get better of their opponents in a transitional situation, and this is everything that Lookman brings and more.
With the club moving forward from ageing Son, they need someone to take on the limelight and the pressure that comes with it, and the former Leipzig wide forward can ideally do so.
But Tottenham now has new competition for his signature…
Newcastle are interested and he does fit in at St. James Park
Premier League heavyweights Newcastle United are said to be looking at the 27-year-old, with the Magpies scouts spotted looking at the player, per Football Insider.
His ability to slot across the front line (left wing, right wing, and in a second striker role) goes very much with how Eddie Howe prefers to have his forward players, and while they are prioritising to bring in a new right winger when the summer comes around. But if you look at Lookman and his versatility, it can help Howe to rotate Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak upfront and add that tactical unpredictability to the team.
It’s going to be easy to get him out of Atalanta
Any move for the 27-year-old could come easy given the former Everton ace’s public fallout with manager Gian Piero Gasperini after the latter criticised Lookman following his missed penalty against Club Brugge, which saw Atalanta getting knocked out of the Champions League on a 5-2 aggregate score, and these comments were later described as “deeply disrespectful” by the player—which fuels a summer exit.

It is to be seen how this goes, but every added competitor makes it more complicated for Tottenham to vie for his signature, as Levy will want to avoid an auction-like situation with multiple positions to reinforce.
