Evan Ferguson has struggled to hit the ground running since arriving at West Ham on loan from Brighton.

West Ham have spent several years chasing the addition of a striker, and they thought they had curtailed those concerns with the summer arrival of Niclas Fullkrug.

However, injuries have prevented the German from having any real impact, which once again increased the need for a striker in the winter.

The Irons completed the deadline day signing of Ferguson, sparking plenty of optimism at the London Stadium, but the Irishman has yet to hit the standards that many had expected of him.

That lack of form has seen Ferguson all but glued to the bench under Graham Potter, leaving a question mark as to where his future lies, but amid the latest transfer development, West Ham may already know the answer.

Ferguson decision may already be made at West Ham

Given his potential and the price tag that typically comes along with that, it already seemed unlikely that West Ham would pursue a permanent deal for Ferguson.

That likelihood will be even lower now given the fact that the Irishman is yet to get his name on the scoresheet for the Irons.

With any potential deal likely to come at a significantly inflated price, it simply wouldn’t make sense for the Hammers to chase his signature, and it appears as though they won’t be, given the links to Lille striker Jonathan David [Sky Sport.ch].

Ferguson is yet to have any impact for the Irons

The very fact that the Hammers are already being linked with several strikers immediately suggests that they have accepted a summer departure for Ferguson, in hopes of signing someone else who can contribute far more effectively.

David arrival would showcase serious ambition for West Ham

While it seems somewhat unlikely given his growing reputation in France, the signing of David would be a huge statement of intent for West Ham, and one that would greatly improve their chances of success next season.

Potter already has a great foundation to build from in terms of the playing squad, and will have more decisions to make in the future in regard to who leaves West Ham.

As for now, the focus for West ham will be to finish the current campaign as strongly as possbile.
