The Arsenal star could leave the North London club on a Bosman deal when his contract expires, although the Catalan boss feels the midfield positions are well covered at the moment.
Thomas Partey’s future at Arsenal is up in the air heading towards the summer window, as the Ghanaian midfielder’s contract expires when the season ends. The experienced midfielder has been integral to Mikel Arteta’s plans for the last few campaigns, although there are no efforts from the club to extend his stay yet. Arsenal are already close to signing Martin Zubimendi, which would signal the end of the 31-year-old.
There is still the possibility of a renewal offer from Arsenal, although Partey is expected to seal his departure in the summer. His experience and recent showing of consistent fitness levels may have helped him climb on the shortlist of many top clubs, with Barcelona considered one of those keen to sign the midfielder.
Having joined from Arsenal in a €50 million deal in 2020, Partey has been a hit-and-miss signing, with fitness troubles playing a significant role during his time at the club. The possibility of a Bosman arrival would have been the factor behind the links to Barcelona, although manager Hansi Flick has no interest in Partey. The German tactician feels the midfield positions are currently well covered by Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, and Frenkie de Jong, which makes their interest in Partey a bit redundant.
