Manchester United could do with bringing in some more quality this summer

Manchester United have the chance to sign some more players in the next transfer window to bolster their ranks. It has been another disappointing season for the Red Devils and they find themselves down in 14th place in the table.

Ruben Amorim was picked as their new manager earlier this winter to replace Erik ten Hag. Prior to his switch to England, he caught the eye over in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon. It has been a mixed start for the Portuguese head coach since his move to Old Trafford. He is still getting to grips with life in England and patience is required with him.

Manchester United linked with Jamie Gittens

United need some fresh blood in their squad and landing someone like Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens would be ideal. He would give them more competition and depth in attack and at the age of 20, he has bags of potential and is one for the future.

According to Football Transfers, the Red Devils are interested in luring him to the North West this summer as they hunt for some new faces. However, they face competition from Premier League rivals such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

United would be able to offer him regular game time over other teams though. After all, they have less quality at their disposal in his position these days, hence their lowly position in the league. Gittens is under contract at Dortmund until June 2028 meaning they are under no pressure to sell him this year and they can wait for the right offer to come in for his services. He has been with the Bundesliga giants since joining them back in 2020 and he has broken into their first-team.

The England youth international has made 94 appearances in all competitions and has chipped in with 16 goals, 11 of which have come this term. Prior to his transfer to Germany, he had spells on the books at Reading, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Manchester United should consider swap deal

There is another way United can edge themselves ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur and that is by using Marcus Rashford as part of a swap deal. It has been well documented that the England international has fallen out of favour under Amorim.

The Wythenshawe-born man was given the green light to leave his boyhood club on loan in January when Aston Villa came calling. He linked up with the Villans to get some more game time under his belt and get his confidence back.

Rashford’s time at Villa Park is a chance to put himself in the shop window. It is unlikely that he will play for United again whilst Amorim is in charge. Therefore, selling him permanently would suit all parties involved. It would help free up space and funds in the Red Devils’ ranks to pave the way for Gittens to come in.

Moving to Dortmund would be an exciting new challenge for Rashford in a new country and culture. They regularly play Champions League and will hope to pip the likes of Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen to the title over coming years.
