WR D.K. Metcalf granted permission to seek trade from Seahawks

Earlier this offseason, the Chargers were a team predicted to try and make a splash this offseason in an attempt to get Justin Herbert more help on offense. That claim came from an anonymous NFL coordinator who thought the Bolts could pull off a trade with the Seahawks for veteran wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.

While it was all just hype and rumors back then, the idea just gained a ton of steam as it was reported Wednesday morning that Metcalf had been granted permission to seek a trade partner, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

According to a report on the news from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chargers were “quietly but aggressively” trying to make a move for Metcalf around this time a season ago but were “rebuffed” by the Seahawks. Now that the Chargers remain in pursuit of adding talent at the receiver position, the possibility of adding Metcalf to a room with youngsters Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston has become all the more real with this news.

Metcalf is coming off his sixth consecutive season to begin his career with at least 900 yards receiving. He’s just a season removed from an 1,114-yard, eight-touchdown season in 2023 but saw his target share decrease following the breakout of second-year teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Metcalf had a career-high 1,303 yards in 2020 and a high mark of 12 touchdowns posted during the 2021 campaign.
