Rio Ferdinand has insisted Ibrahima Konate should have been shown a red card after the Liverpool defender appeared to shove Bradley Barcola near the goalkeeper box.
The Reds' were caught by a cross which sent the French winger to a one-versus-one situation against Alisson.
However, Liverpool centre back Konate appeared to make a last-ditch tackle which was likely to lead to a straight red card.
But after a two-minute VAR check, the game's officials decided not to award the 25-year-old a dismissal - a decision which was disputed by former stars such as Ferdinand.
'That's a foul,' said the Manchester United icon while commentating the game on TNT Sports. 'And that's in his back, that's a foul. It's a red card.'
'It's that's not a red card, I'll be amazed,' added Ferdinand during the VAR checks.
The Liverpool centre back appeared to make a last-ditch shove on Paris-Saint Germain winger Bradley Barcola in the 25th minute
'And it will be a shame if it does go down to 10 against 11 in that sense, because you want the best players playing it equally in the 90 minutes.'
The incident happened just moments after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's goal was ruled out due to offside after another lengthy VAR check.
Although they came as the favourites of the entire tournament, Liverpool found it hard to create chances against the Ligue 1 title holders.
Meanwhile, they finished the first half with 12 shots against one in favour of the French team.
Following the VAR decision not to send Konate off, Ferdinand said: 'I can’t believe how lucky Liverpool are here. How has VAR not picked it up.
'He is barging between the shoulder blads on his back.'
