The Dallas Cowboys have made a rather significant decision regarding the contract of quarterback Dak Prescott.
According to a report from Patrik Walker of the Dallas Cowboys team website, the team has made the decision to restructure the contract for quarterback Dak Prescott, creating nearly $37 million in salary cap space.
“Just like that, with the click of a Bic, the Dallas Cowboys have freed up tens of millions in dollars of financial savings that will move directly to the team’s salary cap ahead of 2025 free agency, their latest move being to restructure the contract belonging to All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott,” Walker wrote for the Dallas Cowboys official team website.
“It’s a move that frees up nearly $37 million in cap savings and arrives less than 24 hours after the Cowboys restructured the deal on All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The two restructures alone free up more than $57 million that can be used for spending — both contracts having been agreed to at the back end of last summer.”
However, these massive salary cap savings do not necessarily mean the Cowboys will make any significant free agent moves during the offseason.
After the Zack Martin retirement press conference this week, Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones indicated that he did not think the team would be “aggressive” in free agency.
“I don’t think aggressive is the right word,” Jones told reporters. “I’m not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids.”
So the move may be exciting news for Cowboys fans, but it doesn’t necessarily mean any significant free agent moves are imminent.
