Quinn Ewers was once considered the best quarterback prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. The now-former Texas quarterback might benefit from his stock falling some as there's a situation On Texas Football's CJ Vogel can see Ewers landing in.
In his second mock draft involving Longhorns prospects, Vogel sent Ewers to Detroit in the second round, with the No. 60 overall choice. Vogel believes Ewers could eventually take the reins of the Lions' offense from Jared Goff.
"Looking at the Jordan Love path for Quinn Ewers to DET," Vogel wrote Wednesday on X. "Goff is under contract until 2027, with an option for 2028. At that point, Goff will have a cap hit of $55M. In 2028, his cap hit will be $61.6M. Hendon Hooker and Teddy Bridgewater were the backups for the 2024 run, though Bridgewater was signed off of a Florida HS sideline right before the playoffs where he was a coach.
"Ewers & Goff aren't too different style wise and the Lions have drafted very well offensively for long term success."
Goff has been Detroit's signal-caller for the past four seasons. The Lions stuck with him after a 3-10-1 showing in 2021, and the team has since morphed into one of the NFC's best teams.
Detroit won the NFC North this past season as Goff threw for a career-high 37 touchdowns. The Lions were upset by the Washington Commanders at home in the divisional round of the postseason, though.
Former USC quarterback Cody Kessler said Monday that he could see Quinn Ewers succeeding in the right situation, comparing him to former Cincinnati passer Andy Dalton. With weapons like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Jahmyr Gibbs surrounding him, Ewers would have the support to take off.
