Match Highlights
Cat Macario opens the score.
Great backheel from Ramírez assists Beever-Jones in 2-0.
Momiki gets Leicester City back in the game.
Erin Cuthbert returns from injury and scores 3-1.
Chelsea takes an early lead
Chelsea knew they had to make up for the draw against Brighton and started the game against Leicester City with an early goal. Cat Macario was fouled by Ruby Mace, who received a yellow card. The free kick was around 25 yards out. Macario went for goal but the ball deflected off the wall. It looped over goalkeeper Leitzig, scoring the 1-0.
Chelsea stayed in control throughout the first twenty minutes but Leicester City defended well and stayed on top of any mistakes The Blues made. Chelsea created some danger through corner-kicks but nothing that forced Leitzig to make any saves.
Break in play: Ruby Mace stretchered off
There was a break in play when Ruby Mace went down. In the replay you could see she made a misstep and her knee/lower leg made a wrong movement. Mace was stretchered off the pitch with what looked an ACL injury. Hopefully it is not and we will see Ruby Mace back soon. Takarada replaced her.
Both sides get close to a goal in first half stoppage time. Leicester City’s corner-kick creates a mess in the box but Chelsea eventually cleared the ball and maintained the lead.
Second half: Chelsea stormed out of the gates
Leicester City held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw before the winter break this season. As soon as the second half began Chelsea immediately went on the attack to extend their lead.
It took the home team five minutes to score the 2-0. Aggie Beever-Jones and Hamano linked up around the box to get the ball to Ramírez. The Colombian international knew exactly where the ball had to go and delivered with a perfectly timed backheel. Aggie Beever-Jones was free in the box when she received the ball, drove towards Leitzig and slotted it home.
Leicester is back: wonderfull finish by Momiki
Leicester City fought their way back in the game by winning the ball high on the pitch. Ale took it off Beever-Jones and immediately found Momiki with brilliant pass through the defence. Momiki chipped it over Hannah Hampton, scoring the 2-1.
Sonia Bompastor makes her first changes: Lawrence and Kaptein on for Macario and Björn.
The visitors fight for a point
With only one goal difference Amandine Miguel decided on the following substitutes: Goodwin and O’Brien off for Las and Rose. Miguel’s side came close to the equaliser when Rose worked her way around Millie Bright and found Cayman, who drove towards the box. Her effort was powerful but straight at goalkeeper Hampton.
