Harry Kane has now produced 48 goal involvements in the Champions League, overtaking Wayne Rooney’s tally in the competition.

The England captain opened the scoring for Bayern Munich on Wednesday night in their all-German last 16 clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

Former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise swung in a brilliant cross for the ex-Tottenham superstar to head home after just nine minutes.

75 minutes into the game at the Allianz Arena Kane found the top corner from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 to the home team.

That took his record to 38 Champions League goals across his time with Tottenham and Bayern, while he has also provided 10 assists in the competition.

Rooney managed 47 goal involvements in the Champions League, with 30 goals and 17 assists for Manchester United.

Next on the list of Englishmen in the competition are Raheem Sterling and Frank Lampard, both on 44, according to Opta.

The Bayern superstar has been out in front for a while just on goals scored by Englishmen in the Champions League, extending that record on Wednesday.

Kane will now fancy his chances of hunting down Beckham at the top of the goal involvement charts for Englishmen in the Champions League, with Bayern in an extremely strong position in the tie with Leverkusen.

Jamal Musiala scored the other goal in the 3-0 win, which saw Nordi Mukiele sent off for Leverkusen just after the hour-mark.

The England captain scored eight Champions League goals in his first season with Bayern and has already reached nine this campaign.

His tally was boosted by netting four times in a 9-2 rout of Dinamo Zagreb in the group stage, but no player has scored more goals in the Champions League than Kane since the start of the 2023/24 season.
