The NFL offseason is in full swing and teams have already begun formulating their free agency plans. With Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens are always in a strong spot. That remains true this offseason too.

Yet, when you boast a two-time NFL MVP like the Ravens do, the pressure to win a Super Bowl increases each time they fail. Now heading into his eighth season as a starter, much of that blame falls on the shoulders of the Ravens’ QB.

However, one of the Ravens’ issues last season was an inconsistent defense that settled into allowing the ninth-fewest points in the NFL. With Jackson fully expected to lead a top-five scoring attack again, it’s the Ravens’ defense that could use an injection of youth.

While pre-free agency mock drafts are always bound to change once needs are addressed, the quality of the pass-rushers in this draft class makes the Baltimore Ravens’ plans easier to project.

There isn’t just one or two edge-rushers with a first-round grade this year, there are several of them. Chances are, a number of enticing prospects will be available by the time the Ravens are on the clock in the first round.

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec strongly believes the Ravens will be targeting an edge rusher with their first pick in the draft.

“The Ravens stick tightly to a “best-player available” process, so they won’t go into this draft determined to address one specific position with the No. 27 pick. However, if you look at their needs and this draft class, it’s a pretty safe bet that an edge rusher will get strong consideration. Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart, Georgia’s Mykel Williams, Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr. and Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku probably won’t all be available, but a couple of them almost certainly will be and they’ll garner strong interest from a team that needs to add an explosive edge rusher. This draft feels like the time to do it. “

While Odafe Oweh wasn’t far behind with 10 sacks, Kyle Van Noy led the Ravens with 12.5 sacks last season. Van Noy turns 34 this month, so it makes sense that the Ravens would want a young prospect who can develop into a long-term starter.
