The Detroit Pistons have won 10 of their last 11 games heading into tonight's tilt with the Los Angeles Clippers, a run that's been triggered by stellar play on both sides of the court at various times.
The Pistons have scored as many as 148 points during their recent 11-game stretch while giving up 100 points or less four times against opposing offenses.
On the day before the Pistons' road matchup with coach Tyronn Lue's team, Pistons point guard/forward Cade Cunningham shared his thoughts on why Detroit's defense has been so dominant at times.
"I think (Jalen Duren), he's been a big part of that, um, having him and (Isaiah) Stewart at the rim every time, I mean it's hard for guys to score over them, and then, you know, we've got length on the perimeter," Cunningham said, calling the Pistons' defensive success a "system thing," adding that the Pistons also have "the right personnel."
While the Pistons' 2024-2025 defense won't be mistaken for the Bad Boys and 2004 Pistons' units, Cunningham and coach JB Bickerstaff know they have players they can trust to secure key stops when the team needs them.
Detroit's defense will be tested tonight against the Clippers and Saturday with a trip to the Chase Center to take on the Golden State Warriors next on the docket.
