Manchester United legend and former PSG midfielder David Beckham's face was a picture as Liverpool produced a brilliant smash and grab to beat their French counterparts 1-0 at the Parc des Princes. Arne Slot's side had to adapt to a more defensive style against PSG as Luis Enrique's side looked for a first leg advantage.

In the first half, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia thought he had given the home side the lead with a brilliant curling effort only for the semi-automated offside technology to rule the goal out by the finest of margins. Ibrahima Konate then avoided a red card after a clumsy challenge on the edge of the penalty area which VAR deemed not to be a 'clear and obvious error'.

Alisson Becker was producing a masterclass in the Liverpool goal as PSG continued to push until the end. But it was substitute Harvey Elliott who broke home fans' hearts as he took just 47 seconds to score and win the first leg for the Reds.

As the Liverpool players and fans celebrated, the television cameras cut to Beckham in the stands who could not hide his disappointment and disbelief at what he had just witnessed. The Reds would ultimately hold on to the victory and give themselves the advantage heading into the second leg next Tuesday.

One look at the statistics from the match showed just how big an accomplishment it was from the Reds to win in Paris. Liverpool had just two shots in comparison to PSG's 27 on the night with only one of the Reds' being on target - the Elliott winner.

Focus for Liverpool now turns to the weekend when they host strugglers Southampton at Anfield.
