I saw 'magnificent' Liverpool player prove that he's nowhere near finished at Anfield tonight against PSG

Liverpool put in a backs to the wall performance to come away from Paris with a sensational win on Wednesday.

The Reds knew they’d have to be at their best against PSG, with the French side in tremendous form heading into the match.

In the end, that is far from what happened for Liverpool. For much of the 90 minutes, Arne Slot’s team were comfortably second best at the Parc des Princes.

With wave after wave of pressure coming their way, it felt inevitable that PSG would breach the Reds goal and perhaps even go on and get two or even three.

But the Parisians didn’t bank on coming up against one man: Alisson Becker. The Brazilian was absolutely sensational in the Liverpool goal.

There have been suggestions recently that Alisson could be replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili once the Georgian arrives next summer. But in the French capital, the Liverpool number one laid down an enormous marker.

Alisson Becker sends out Liverpool message

Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is an incredibly interesting one. Come the summer, they’ll have Alisson, Mamardashvili and Caoimhin Kelleher on the books.

With Kelleher looking likely to leave, there is a straight fight waiting to play out between Alisson and Mamardashvili.

There have been more than a few suggestions that Alisson could leave for Saudi Arabia and with the new arrival reportedly not interested in playing second-fiddle, a perfect storm could be brewing.

With that threat hanging over him, though, Alisson turned up to show why he should be going absolutely nowhere anytime soon.

Alisson was ‘magnificent’ against PSG, repelling absolutely everything the Ligue 1 side had to throw at him.

One brilliant one-v-one block against Bradley Barcola, two superb stops against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and a terrific flying save from Desire Doue. Harvey Elliott may have got the winning goal, but this was a match-winning display from Alisson.

Alisson makes Liverpool history vs PSG

It hadn’t looked like he would get one for large swathes of the game, but Alisson’s clean sheet against PSG was history-making for Liverpool.

With 22 clean sheets, he is now the goalkeeper in Liverpool history with the most clean sheets in the Champions League.

It is fitting that as quite possibly the best custodian the Reds have ever seen, Alisson now holds this record.

Given the imminent arrival of Mamardashvili, there has been some worry amongst supporters that we could soon be seeing the back of the 32-year-old.

But after what the big Brazilian delivered in Paris, it’s clear that he is nowhere near finished. Absolutely incredible performance.
