Five from Training: Chelsea's final session ahead of Copenhagen

It was a busy final session at Parken Stadion as Chelsea finalised their pre-match preparation in the Danish capital.

The Blues' players and staff flew to Denmark on Wednesday afternoon and shortly after their arrival, Enzo Maresca put his squad through their paces ahead of our return to Conference League action.

Training took place at tomorrow's venue, the 38,000-seater stadium in the heart of Copenhagen, and provided a brilliant backdrop for the session ahead of the Round of 16 tie.

Before training started, Maresca sat down with journalists for the pre-match press conference and confirmed Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah were both back in contention following their respective injuries.

For Chalobah, he has only missed one match, Southampton, after coming off just eight minutes into our trip to Aston Villa. As for Badiashile, this could be his first involvement since playing against Tottenham Hotspur on December 8.

Maresca also used his press conference to clarify that Robert Sanchez would indeed be starting in goal as expected, while also explaining how Cole Palmer's inclusion in Chelsea's Conference League squad for the knockout stages was always part of the plan.

‘It was planned at the beginning of the season,’ explained Maresca. ‘For the first six months, we tried to give him more rest. It was the same for Wes (Fofana) and Romeo (Lavia). Unfortunately, the other two have had injuries, but the plan was exactly this plan.

‘Since we started, every decision we have taken is trying to protect players.

‘Now we have Premier League games and Conference League games and they are all important. We could change players in the squad and we decided to add Cole, for instance, for the final part of the season. And if he is in the squad he can play minutes, no doubt.’

Christopher Nkunku will be hoping he can continue his remarkable form in the Conference League. After scoring in both of our qualifiers against Servette, the Frenchman added another five goals and three assists in the five games he played during the league phase. That means the 27-year-old already has ten goal involvements in seven games in the competition this season.

With the top goalscorer charts only including the Conference League proper, not the qualifying rounds, it means Nkunku is second in the rankings, one goal behind joint leader Marc Guiu.

Unfortunately the young Spaniard was among the Blues who remained in the UK due to injury, as did Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke.

You can see Chelsea's full 21-man squad for the match with Copenhagen here and the tie will be shown live in the UK on TNT Sports, with kick-off at 5.45pm GMT.
