Journalist spots what Cody Gakpo did after Liverpool 1-0 PSG which hints at how bad his injury is

Liverpool have Alisson Becker to thank for their Champions League win over PSG.

The Ligue 1 leaders were expected to cause the Reds problems ahead of their contest in Paris and that proved to be the case.

Luis Enrique praised Liverpool ahead of the match and it was clear from the off that the Spanish coach had done his homework on Arne Slot’s team.

PSG were all over the Premier League leaders throughout the game but thanks to a Harvey Elliott goal, the Merseyside club will take a 1-0 lead back to Anfield.

Despite the midfielder scoring the winner, the plaudits will go to Alisson for his role in the victory and the Brazilian’s teammates are aware of this at the full-time whistle.

Cody Gakpo risks injury during Alisson interaction

Alisson’s performance against PSG will be one the Brazilian never forgets as the 32-year-old made nine saves, his joint-most in a Champions League game, and stopped a Luis Enrique side who had scored 40 goals in their previous 10 matches before facing Liverpool.

Steve McManaman and Rio Ferdinand were full of praise for Alisson following his first-half performance in Paris, not knowing what was to come in the second 45 minutes.

After the full-time whistle, the Brazilian was treated like a hero by his Liverpool teammates with James Pearce spotting Cody Gakpo lifting the 32-year-old off of his feet.

Gakpo has been injured for Liverpool in recent weeks and it seems the Reds forward forgot about this when embracing his teammate after his heroic performance against PSG.

The praise for the goalkeeper did not stop there as one Match of the Day pundit could not stop himself from getting involved in the admiration for the Reds’ Brazilian star.

Alan Shearer heaps praise on ‘outstanding’ Alisson Becker

Alisson was given a warm reception by Liverpool fans last week after his performance against Newcastle as the Brazilian made it back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League.

The 32-year-old’s performance against PSG would trump that tenfold, with former Magpise star Alan Shearer full of praise for the Liverpool goalkeeper after the full-time whistle.

“What a performance from Alisson that was, outstanding,” the Match of the Day pundit said on X about the Liverpool star.

Liverpool play PSG in the second leg of their Champions League Last 16 tie next Tuesday and Slot will hope that he will not need his goalkeeper has much as he did in Paris.
