CJ Stroud Predicted to Reunite With Former Ohio State Teammate in Mock Draft

The Houston Texans had a strong year in the second season with CJ Stroud at quarterback.

The Texans finished with a 10-7 regular season record, which gave them the AFC South crown and a No. 4 seed in the AFC.

Houston then defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, 32-12, in the Wild Card round before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, 23-13, in the Divisional Round.

Still, the future is bright for the Texans, especially with the way Stroud has played in his short NFL career.

They hold the No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, so there are a lot of big names that could come to Houston.

Charles Davis of NFL.com compiled a new mock draft. In it, he had the Texans selecting Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka at No. 25.

Egbuka was also a teammate at Ohio State with CJ Stroud, so it would be a neat reunion for the two.

"I think he's a clone of another former Ohio State wideout, Seattle's Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Houston needs a receiving threat to help WR1 Nico Collins, with Stefon Diggs hitting free agency and Tank Dell recovering from a second consecutive season-ending injury. Not to mention, Egbuka caught passes from C.J. Stroud at OSU."

Stroud spent two seasons as the Ohio State starting QB -- 2021 and 2022 -- and finished top-five in Heisman Trophy voting in both seasons.

Egbuka's best overall year came with Stroud at quarterback in the 2021 campaign. The Ohio State WR caught 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In 2024, he took a bit of a back seat to freshman sensation Jeremiah Smith, although Egbuka still caught 81 passes for 1,011 yards and 10 scores.

Moreover, the Texans are set to let Stefon Diggs hit free agency, making the need for a WR even more pressing.

So, a Stroud-Egbuka reunion could be in the works.
