Laura Wienroither says the manner of City’s Barclays Women’s Super League draw with West Ham makes the result even more frustrating.
Following a closely contested affair in the capital, the Blues broke the deadlock through Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw with 10 minutes remaining at Chigwell Construction Stadium.
But as the clock ticked past the 90 minutes, and with Gareth Taylor’s side on course for a fifth straight win in all competitions, Manuela Pavi broke the visitors’ hearts with an equaliser deep in injury time.
It followed a battling display by City who had deservedly taken the lead following an improved second-half display.
And Wienroither says it was disappointing to see our tireless effort come up short in the capital.
“When you’re 1-0 up and you concede last minute, it’s very frustrating,” she said.
When you’re winning 1-0 quite close to the end and you put in a hard fight to score, because it was a tough game, it was a good opponent to play against.
“I think we just need to be a bit smarter when we’re 1-0 up and we want to bring the three points.
“In these situations you have to be smart as a team because it is all about the three points and if it’s a difficult game it’s always a fight and we took the fight well today.
“Everyone put in a big shift and that’s why it’s a little more frustrating that we didn’t get the result we wanted.”
