Does Joe Thuney Trade Force Chiefs’ Draft Hand?

The offensive line for the Kansas City Chiefs was already a big red blinking light entering the offseason after the Super Bowl performance, but now it is even more so.

Why? Because the franchise traded away star guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears, and yes, the move says the Chiefs $16 million against the cap, but now there are two holes on the left side of the offensive line.

Left tackle and left guard are now two of the biggest needs for the Chiefs and they can be addressed in free agency with a host of veteran players available, but it can also be filled in the draft.

And for NFL.com's Charles Davis, the Chiefs grab Oregon stud Josh Conerly Jr. in the first round.

"The OL, especially the LT position, needs addressing. Conerly helped himself at the Combine," Davis writes.

This is yet another mock draft that sees Conerly Jr. come to Kansas City, and if this move does eventuate, it likely signals the end for either Wanya Morris or Kingsley Suamataia, despite both only being with the franchise for two and one year respectively.

Of course, we have seen lineman be shuffled before and maybe Andy Reid and Co. have a vision for either Morris or Suamataia to shift inside to guard.

But right now, two gaping holes in Patrick Mahomes' protection must be filled, and in Conerly Jr., the Chiefs add a solid tackle who rarely gets beaten, and for a blindside protector, that is exactly what Kansas City will be looking for.
