PULASKI, Wis. (WBAY) - It’s not just the city of Green Bay going all out for the NFL Draft.
Several neighboring communities are having celebrations of their own, including Pulaski.
Pulaski is known for its polka, pączki, and Polish history.
“Some of the things that we want to highlight that are quintessentially Pulaski,” says Stacey Von Busch with the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce.
The traditional Friday night fish fry will be the hallmark of Pulaski’s draft celebration: a fish fry at Super Ron’s, complete with a DJ.
“I always think the grocery store is the center of the community so if Pulaski has something going on, then the grocery store should be part of it,” says Jay Young, the assistant store manager at Super Ron’s.
But that’s not all. There’s a full 24 hours of events planned, including a Polish luncheon at Smurawa’s Country Bakery, and country line dancing classes at Sarah’s Dance Academy.
“We really look at this as a once in a lifetime opportunity,” says Von Busch.
Pulaski Community Park is going to be the central hub of the activities happening during the Saturday of draft weekend, but village leaders say it’s not only an opportunity for entertainment but also to highlight some of the upcoming projects in the village.
“I’ll be there to share on Saturday morning to share exactly what we’re hoping to do and some of our ideas, and then again, we always want community input, so what is most important to the families that are in our community,” says Stephanie Rodgers, a Pulaski village trustee. “How can we make this all-inclusive, so that our parks are really for everyone and not just a small, targeted group.”
Some of the big projects on the horizon include making improvements to all six parks, starting with Dr. V.J. Shippy park.
It promises to be a celebration connecting the village’s history with the Pulaski of the future.
