It was the first time that Arsenal scored seven goals since 2012 when they beat Newcastle United 7-2 in a Premier League game, and was one of their best performances this season under Mikel Arteta.

Odegaard managed to score twice during the game but also provided an assist for a goal by Riccardo Calafiori, and was a real standout player for the Gunners.

It comes as he has been subject to criticism recently amid a spell of poor form in midfield, but he bounced back with a statement against PSV.

Arsenal fans took to X to react to his performance against Odegaard on Tuesday night…

My captain. Step by step he’ll be back to his best – peaking at the right time.

Arteta wanted to increase Odegaard’s goals

It was only last week after Arsenal’s defeat to West Ham in the Premier League that manager Arteta was asked about Odegaard’s lack of goals so far this season.

He said: “Maybe his efficiency has dropped a little bit, there were some penalties in there that he’s scored in the past which is another factor. We want to increase the scoring level records of every individual and Martin is one of them.”

After wanting to get the Norway international more goals, Arteta certainly managed it on Tuesday night. He has just two goals in the Premier League so far this season, and Gunners fans will be hoping that their captain can now kick on and score more during the remainder of the season.
