Manchester United are expected to make a move for Real Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin at the end of this season, according to journalist Eduarda Inda.
Speaking on TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones (quotes via OK Diario), Inda said that the Red Devils’ “good relationship” with the Ukrainian’s agent Jorge Mendes could help facilitate the transfer:
“Manchester United want Lunin to replace Onana, the Cameroonian goalkeeper who was in the Barça youth academy.”

“They want him for next season. Lunin is being brought in by Jorge Mendes, who has a good relationship with Manchester United.”
What do fans need to know about Lunin?
The 26-year-old has been capped 13 times by Ukraine, having been Real’s regular starter last season when first-choice Thibaut Courtois was sidelined with a knee injury.
Lunin earned praise for his performances at club level. However, he did have a difficult European Championships with his country, making several errors, and he has been back on the bench this campaign following Courtiois’s return to fitness. His game time has been restricted to outings in the Copa del Rey.
How does the United transfer target compare to Onana?
If we compare Lunin’s shot-stopping stats from the start of last season to United’s current number one, there is very little between them.
They have almost identical save ratios. Lunin’s average is 72.6%, compared to Onana’s 72.2%. In terms of conceding goals compared to their Post-Shot xG conceded, their figures are nearly the same too.
Lunin’s figure stands at +3.1, which means he has kept out three more goals than average, while Onana’s is +3.0.
For that reason, it seems that head coach Ruben Amorim would not be getting much of an upgrade if the Red Devils do secure the signature of the Real Madrid goalkeeper.
