Liverpool can take advantage of rare slump to sign player Emre Can called 'unstoppable'

Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund controls the ball

Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens has been linked with Liverpool

Liverpool continue to be linked with Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens. Dortmund are reportedly ready to cut their asking price for Gittens this summer, who has also been linked with Chelsea.

Sky Sports Germany claim that the Bundesliga club had initially slapped a hefty €100 million (£83m) price tag on the winger, but they're now thought to be mulling over a reduced fee of around €60m (£50m) to €70m (£58m).

Gittens has been a revelation for Dortmund this season. The 20-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided four assists across all competitions. Former Reds midfielder Emre Can has already given his verdict, which would be music to Arne Slot's ears.

"Jamie was excellent when he came off the bench and saved us by scoring a couple of goals," he said after Dortmund's 3-0 win against Club Brugge in September. "He's very good on the ball and has improved a lot.

"The fact that our squad is so strong that he was only a substitute to start says a lot about us. The competition for places is pushing us.

"Now that he has a taste for scoring goals, he will be almost unstoppable if he keeps this up. We didn't put in a top performance, if we are being honest, but we will take the win."

And his performances in 2024/25 have been all the more remarkable, considering that they have been for a struggling team. Dortmund sit 10th in the Bundesliga table, having sacked their previous manager Nuri Sahin in January.

It is a rare slump for Dortmund who have only finished outside the top three in Germany once in the last nine years. Liverpool would be signing a player who has thrived in adversity, a green flag for any prospective club.

Dortmund's likely absence from the Champions League next season will also boost their chances of signing the young star. A move to Anfield would be a sensible move for all parties.
