GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - With draft construction set to take over in just a few weeks, people living in nearby neighborhoods want to know what to expect.
Local NFL Draft partners provided key information to Green Bay homeowners about the event at Wednesday’s Lombardi Neighborhood Association meeting.
Several dozen homeowners were in attendance for Wednesday’s town hall. Representatives from the Packers, Green Bay police, and Discover Green Bay answering questions about the NFL Draft, an event that will take place in their backyard.
“I’m a little nervous because even though you have all of this planning, until it actually gets here, you’re never going to know,” says Jeanne DeGroot, who lives in the Lombardi neighborhood.
Attendees expressed concerns about parking, transportation, security, and more.
The presenters provided all the major details they’ve worked out with the NFL.
Aaron Popkey with the Packers discussed fan activities and the layout of the draft campus, Discover Green Bay’s Nick Meisner dug into the NFL’s four-phase plan for road closures surrounding the draft campus, and Cpt. Ben Allen with Green Bay police explained the methods that will be used to keep fans safe, including large barricades on the perimeter, and more than two dozen k9′s on the draft grounds.
Even after thorough talks with the NFL, Cpt. Allen says one of the neighbors’ concerns did leave him a little stumped.
“Garbage pick-up day, really wouldn’t have considered that because one, I don’t know when it was here, but really that’s going to be an impact to a large part of our community. So it’s even those little things that you wouldn’t think about, so again another good reason to have these community meetings,” says Cpt. Allen.
The presenters say it is crucial to keep the people they serve informed.
“This neighborhood is key to the success of this draft. The residents, the businesses in this neighborhood, being prepared and ready to help our visitors right next to the footprint is critical,” says Meisner.
“The information, we’re just pushing it out as far and as wide as we can. We know that it’s all important and that every little bit of information is good to share,” says Cpt. Allen.
Attendees say they now feel more encouraged about what’s to come during draft week because of the meeting.
“I am more reassured than I was probably yesterday, and the ability to come and ask my questions was a major benefit,” says DeGroot.
