Man Utd latest injury news and expected return dates ahead of facing Real Sociedad in the Europa League.
Manchester United will be without 11 players when they travel to face Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie. United take on the La Liga side on Thursday night and know that success in the Europa League is their only chance of playing in Europe again next season.
Patrick Dorgu will be available for selection with his three-match ban only applying to domestic matches, though Chido Obi is not eligible to feature in the competition after he was excluded from their revised squad list last month. Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte are both set to miss the Sociedad first leg with minor injury issues.
There is some good team news with Toby Collyer available for selection again after his recent injury but Ruben Amorim will have to contend with an injury crisis. Here is all the latest injury news and expected return dates ahead of facing Sociedad on Thursday night:
Manchester United latest injury news and return dates
Toby Collyer - 6 March vs Real Sociedad (A)
Collyer returned to Manchester United training on Wednesday and should be named on the bench when they face Real Sociedad tonight.
Harry Maguire - 9 March vs Arsenal (H)
Maguire missed training due to a ‘minor issue’ and did not travel to Spain. It is hoped he could be available to face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.
Manuel Ugarte - 9 March vs Arsenal (H)
Ugarte also missed training due to a ‘minor issue’. He will not feature against Sociedad but should not be sidelined for a long time with the problem.
Mason Mount - 16 March vs Leicester (A)
Mount is on the journey to recovery and could return to action at some stage this month. Ruben Amorim said the midfielder is closer along in the rehabilitation process than Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw - 1 April vs Nottingham Forest (A)
It’s hard to say for certain when we might see Shaw again. He suffered another setback upon his recent return to injury and will not be rushed back to action. Amorim does not have a specific date in mind for his return, but it could be early next month.
Kobbie Mainoo - 1 April vs Nottingham Forest (A)
Mainoo is not expected to return to action until after the March international break after he suffered an issue in training. The Nottingham Forest clash is the earliest possibility.
Altay Bayindir - Unknown
Bayindir did not take part in training this week and will miss the Sociedad match. There has not been any specific update on his injury or a possible return date.
Tom Heaton - Unknown
Heaton is also making his recovery from injury. He is unlikely to feature again for the club and could retire at the end of the season.
Jonny Evans - Unknown
Evans is still injured and there has not been any update on his situation. He is another who could consider retirement at the end of the season after an injury-ravaged campaign.
Amad Diallo - End of the season
Amad suffered ankle ligament damage in training last month and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Lisandro Martinez - End of the season at the earliest
Martinez has also been ruled out for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery. He could even be ruled out for the rest of the year, depending on his recovery process.
