Wolves news round-up: Vitor Pereira's praise for forgotten man, 31-year-old 'crucial' to…

Wolves are preparing to take on Everton in the Premier League on the weekend and will be looking to end their recent run of defeats.

Despite being one place above the relegation zone, the Old Gold are favourites to stay up following Leicester City and Ipswich Town’s abysmal form.

All eyes will soon turn to Molineux when Wolves welcome Everton on Saturday night, but until then, here’s a round-up of everything that’s happened in the past 24 hours.

Vitor Pereira gives promising Sam Johnstone update

Sam Johnstone was at fault for Evanilson’s goal for Bournemouth in the FA Cup fifth round last weekend, but turned his performance around.

The goalkeeper, who came in for Jose Sa, had a good game overall, and, had it not been for Matt Doherty’s missed penalty, would’ve been on the winning side.

As a result, Vitor Pereira has praised Johnstone and said he is “competing well” — suggesting he could rival Sa for the number one jersey before the end of the season.

Huddersfield Town fans annoyed at Tawanda Chirewa substitution

Youngster Tawanda Chirewa joined Huddersfield in the January transfer window.

The young midfielder has made seven appearances for the Terriers since joining, including five in League One.

His latest domestic showing came during Huddersfield Town’s 1-0 defeat to Wrexham on Tuesday. Chirewa was substituted off after 72 minutes though — just a few minutes before Steven Fletcher’s winner, and fans weren’t happy.

“Tired of us continuously subbing off Tawanda Chirewa, when he’s one of the few players who actually offer an attacking threat,” one fan wrote.

“Chirewa a top player I’d love us to sign permanently,” another added.

Fosun told Matheus Cunha has dark side

Matheus Cunha’s recent sending off against Bournemouth has plunged the striker into the spotlight. The latest name to condemn the Brazilian’s decision to clash with Milos Kerkez has been Pat Nevin.

The former Scotland international laid into Wolves’ number 10 saying he had a “wild temper tantrum against Bournemouth” and despite being “hugely talented” can be “utterly uncontrollable”.

Nevin’s thoughts on Cunha are the latest in a long line of damning assessments over the South American’s character.

Liam Keen stresses Nelson Semedo’s importance

Even though Cunha often steals the headlines — sometimes because of brilliance, sometimes because of behaviour — Liam Keen believes Wolves have another player capable of being the difference between relegation and survival.

Speaking recently about which players can have a positive impact between now and the end of the season, Keen thinks Nelson Semedo will be ‘key and crucial’ to Wolves’ hopes of survival.

Gary O’Neil’s prediction for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has come true

Lastly, former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil won’t be remembered for his ability to make the right decisions during his short time at Molineux, but one thing the 41-year-old did get right was his early prediction for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

During his time in charge, O’Neil thought Bellegarde could become one of Wolves’ regular starters, and after playing such an important role for Pereira recently, appears to have fulfilled his old manager’s prophecy.

Bellegarde won Wolves’ ‘Player of the Month’ for February. He becomes the side’s fourth different player to win the award this season after Cunha, Semedo and Emmanuel Agbadou.
