Putin ally mocks Macron's Russia warning - as three killed in Ukraine strike after US stops intelligence sharing

Good morning and welcome back to our live coverage of the war in Ukraine.

It was another whirlwind day yesterday.

In Ukraine, Russian strikes on Odesa and Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown of Kryvyi Rih killed at least three people and injured scores more.

On the world stage, more confusing messages came out of the White House.

Washington first ordered the halt of intelligence sharing with Kyiv, in the latest blow to Ukraine.

But hours later, Donald Trump's press secretary suggested that an indefinite pause on American shipments of aid to Ukraine was being looked at.

"I believe what the National Security Council told me in regards to that was ... that they are reconsidering the funding for Ukraine, the pause in the funding," Karoline Leavitt said.

Continued mixed messaging appears to have finally kicked Europe into action, with Emmanuel Macron addressing his country last night to announce he was considering extending France's nuclear umbrella to other European countries.

His words come days after the EU and UK both agreed to up defence spending.

It also emerged that leaders in Paris and London are looking to finalise their own version of a peace plan that could be presented to Trump - possibly in Washington DC.

Over in Kyiv, Zelenskyy continued his charm offensive - attempting to patch up relations with Trump shattered in the Oval Office last week.

He said he was expecting positive things from the US next week, when a top aide announced that a meeting was likely to take place between the two countries.
