'Can't explain how difficult': Daniel Sturridge singles Liverpool midfielder out for praise after Reds stun PSG

Liverpool escaped from Paris with an almost unbelievable 1-0 win over PSG on Wednesday having spent much of the game under the cosh.

The Reds knew they were going to have to suffer somewhat in the French capital as they faced the form side in all of Europe.

But although they largely had Alisson Becker to thank for what was a terrific individual display, Liverpool showed their mettle to come out on top.

It was a backs to the wall Champions League display for much of the night, but when their one chance came in the 87th minute, Liverpool took it.

That it was Harvey Elliott who popped up to slot past Gianluigi Donnarumma was something of a surprise.

However, after Elliott’s third Champions League goal of the season, former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge had some words of praise for the 21-year-old.

Daniel Sturridge praises Harvey Elliott finish

Elliott had barely been on the pitch for a minute by the time he squeezed his effort beyond Donnarumma.

In terms of impact from the bench, it was akin to what Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota did for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest in January.

It wasn’t the tidiest of finishes from the Reds’ No.19, but it did the job.

And taking to X after the game, Sturridge hailed Elliott for making sure his very first touch of the game was a decisive one.

“Nothing but props to Harvey Elliott,” wrote the 35-year-old.

“Can’t explain how difficult it is to come straight off the bench and change the game instantly.”

Sturridge makes post-match Alisson claim

Sturridge never played with Elliott at Anfield, with the youngster arriving in the same period where the former No.15 left.

But someone who Sturridge knows all about from their one year spent as teammates is Alisson.

And as well as praising Elliott, Studge made sure to put some respect on the goalkeeper’s name after the game, too.

“Alisson shows again why he’s the best goalkeeper in the world,” he wrote on X.

After what the Brazilian turned in on Wednesday, there can be very few who would dispute that right now. Colossal.
