West Ham United may have already found their next striker after the latest transfer news that has been shared about RC Strasbourg youngster Emanuel Emegha.

One of the Hammers’ main problems this season has been the focal point of their attack, with Niclas Fullkrug often being sidelined due to injury.

Indeed, Evan Ferguson was brought in to try and rectify that issue, but as the Irishman is only on loan, he’s not a long-term solution.

But after the latest news that has emerged about Emegha, Graham Potter may have already found his new number nine.

West Ham send scouts to watch Emegha

As mentioned, West Ham have struggled massively this season – albeit they have enjoyed a recent upturn in results – and a lot of that can be put down due to their poor recruitment in the summer.

While some players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka have fulfilled their potential and have improved the Hammers’ set-up, others such as Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez have been way off the pace.

So, to rectify that problem, Potter has pinpointed Emegha as a target in the summer transfer window, with the Hammers looking to beat Newcastle United to his signing, according to GiveMeSport (4 March).

Newcastle’s interest in the attacker is, however, also high in a twist to the saga, with the Magpies looking to offer him an “alternative route” into the Premier League.

The East London outfit have been watching the striker in action for a “number of months” now and it is claimed they are refusing to give up in what could be a shootout with Newcastle.

A new striker should very much be the thing on top of their priority list, especially if West Ham want to try and make their way back into the top half of the table next season.

Potter needs to sign a new striker for West Ham

It’s clear to see that the Hammers’ biggest problem is the lack of firepower that they have among their ranks.

While players such as Jarrod Bowen and Carlos Soler have attempted to make up for West Ham’s lack of a number nine, there’s only so much they can do.

Without a clear focal point leading their attack, breaking teams down becomes a lot harder and many more opportunities end up getting squandered as a result.

Granted, Potter has only been in for a couple of months and did inherit Julen Lopetegui’s failure, but next season he won’t have that excuse to fall back on.

So, if the former Brighton boss wants to show that he can make a difference, then the main thing he should be looking at doing is bringing in a striker.

While Emegha may not be that much of a household name just yet, the fact he’s already bagged 11 Ligue 1 goals this season outlines why the attacker would be a solid investment for West Ham’s future.
