Russell Westbrook Makes NBA History in Nuggets-Kings

The Denver Nuggets faced off against the red-hot Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night and they were able to pick up a tough 116-110 victory.

This win marks the Nuggets' 40th of the season as their great season continues. They currently sit third in the Western Conference standings with a 40-22 record and look like a championship contender once again.

Russell Westbrook led the way for the Nuggets in Wednesday's matchup against the Kings. The veteran point guard recorded 25 points, five rebounds and three assists.

With yet another incredible performance, Westbrook continues his chase for the most points by a point guard in NBA history. He currently ranks second all-time in points by a point guard in both the regular season as well as the regular season plus the playoffs.

Westbrook has scored 25,921 career regular season points, which trails only Oscar Robertson's 26,710 career points. Of course, Stephen Curry is quickly closing on Westbrook as he has scored 24,945 career points in the regular season.

Not only does Westbrook rank second in regular season points by a point guard, but he also ranks second all-time in points scored in both the regular season and the playoffs.

The 36-year-old former MVP has scored 28,804 career points combined between the regular season and playoffs, trailing only Curry's 28,911 points.

While Westbrook is unlikely to move past Curry for this record, he has a solid shot to beat Robertson's record for the most points by a point guard in regular season history.

Of course, Westbrook has revitalized his career in Denver this season after struggling over the past few seasons with both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.

This season, the 36-year-old veteran is averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 46.2% from the field and 32.5% from three.

While Westbrook is no longer the MVP caliber player that he once was, he has been a major part of the Nuggets' success this season and they will need him to continue to produce if they want to win another championship this year.
