'Bad news for Man United...'Paul Merson sends warning to Ruben Amorim ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United face Real Sociedad in the Europa League before hosting Arsenal on Sunday.

It is a busy week for Ruben Amorim after crashing out of the FA Cup, with Manchester United losing on penalties against Fulham at Old Trafford.

The Reds return to European action and they’re looking to continue their unbeaten run in the Europa League this season.

Real Sociedad stand in their way after losing 4-0 to Barcelona at the weekend.

After that, United take on Arsenal, who are still in with a chance of challenging Liverpool for the Premier League title. All while Amorim’s side are sitting 14th in the standings.

Arsenal already played their midweek fixture after an astonishing 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. Mikel Arteta’s side will be full of confidence for their trip to Old Trafford.

Paul Merson sends warning to Manchester United

Arsenal already have one foot in the next round of the Champions League, so Arteta will be focused on getting a positive result away at United.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes the Gunners’ 7-1 victory over PSV spells bad news for United ahead of the Premier League clash.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Merson said: “I couldn’t see them scoring seven goals before the end of the season if I am being honest.

“What I saw last night just shows you the gulf in our league.

“Our league is an amazing league, it is the strongest league by far on a consistent basis. They were outstanding yesterday, they played with a lot of confidence.

“That will only give them confidence [going into the weekend], I can only say it is bad news for Man United on Sunday, if I am being honest, because they are going to Manchester United with the shackles off.

“They have not got to worry about next Wednesday, I know Man United have not played yet, but I will be shocked if they are not bothered about the following Thursday.”

United take on Real Sociedad tonight ahead of next week’s second leg. Amorim will have one eye on the second leg since the Europa League is United’s only chance of winning silverware this season.

United’s first team has already arrived in San Sebastian.

Manchester United vs Arsenal record this season

United have played Arsenal on two occasions since the beginning of the season.

The first meeting took place in early December, with Arsenal recording a 2-0 home win over the Reds.

United got revenge in the FA Cup when they beat Arsenal on penalties to reach the fourth round. Bruno Fernandes scored the opener and Diogo Dalot was sent off after the hour mark, meaning United had to fight with just 10 men.

A win for Amorim’s side would come as a blow to Arsenal’s title hopes, but it would come as a surprise because United have not been in good form of late.
