“Little more recognition would be good” – Liverpool star doesn’t want to be arrogant but desires more respect

Alisson Becker starred in Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Harvey Elliott came off the bench to score the winner in the 87th minute and it was the Reds’ only shot on target.

PSG dominated the tie and had more possession and shots on target. Despite this, they weren’t able to find the back of the net, partly because of the Liverpool goalkeeper.

The Brazil international made nine saves against the Ligue 1 side. After the tie, he had a chat with TNT Sports Brazil’s Fred Caldeira and [ESPN Brazil](https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/liverpool/artigo/_/id/14876999/falta-respeito-alisson-responde-diz-gostar-reconhecimento-rebate-criticas-exageradas-nem-dou-bola) have relayed his comments.

Alisson has explained why yesterday’s clash against PSG was one of the best games of his career.

_“So far, I think so, we can say so. A perfect ending,”_ he said.

_“Maybe, I’ve played great matches. I can remember a few, Roma against Atlético Madrid, which ended 0-0. Liverpool against Barcelona, at home, 4-0. In the Champions League final too._

_“But, for sure, this match in volume, actions, not only the saves, but also many crosses. It was a team that gave us a lot of work, PSG played very well, they caused us a lot of danger. I think so, so far it could be one of the best matches I’ve played so far.”_

It was the goalkeeper’s third clean sheet in the Champions League this season. With that, he took his overall tally to 12 clean sheets and conceded 20 goals from 26 matches in all competitions.

Caldeira asked the 32-year-old whether he deserves more recognition from fans in his own country.

Responding to that, Alisson explained: _“We like recognition, maybe it’s not so much respect. I think that when you say, ‘you have to respect me’, you’re a little arrogant, right? But a little more recognition would be good. Now, I understand criticism, it’s part of football._

_“When it’s constructive, I listen to it and take it to myself, but when I see that there are exaggerations and personal preferences, I don’t even pay attention.”_

_“After all, I feel the appreciation within my club. You know how I’m valued here, so I feel much more affection than the opposite.”_

_“This is part of it, it comes along with the results of the competitions, I hope that this level of performance turns into titles with Liverpool, and also into the Brazilian national team.”_

Arne Slot’s side can win the first trophy of this season by beating Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final on March 16th.
