Marc Cucurella: ‘It’s an opportunity to show we are ready'

Marc Cucurella says Chelsea are prepared for a ‘tough’ Copenhagen challenge ahead of the Blues restarting our Conference League campaign in the Danish capital.

Following an impressive league phase - in which we secured victories in six out of six matches - the Blues arrive at the Parken Stadion ready to take on the current Danish league leaders.

The Spanish international acknowledges it will be a difficult test, especially in front of the away supporters, but the full-back is hopeful Chelsea will be able to take a lead back to the Bridge for the reverse leg next week.

Cucurella also praised our opponents whilst acknowledging it is a good chance for us to continue to build momentum.

‘They are a team that have played in the Champions League a lot of times and now they have a young squad with a lot of talent,’ Cucurella said of Copenhagen.

‘I think they have had the same manager for a few years and they know what they need to do. It will be a tough game for us in front of their fans. Hopefully, we can have a good game and take a good result into the second leg.

‘We have a good opportunity, we play tomorrow against a tough team, but if we win this game or we win this competition then we have the opportunity to bring home a trophy that Chelsea haven’t won before. It’s another opportunity to do something special and tomorrow is an opportunity to show we are ready.’

Although recent results have been mixed, Marc believes the last few weeks have taught the Blues much as we look to make it back-to-back wins following last week's 4-0 victory over the Saints.

He continued: ‘We have been through not the best weeks, but I think before this we played good football. December made it look like we are one of the best teams in the league and now it looks like we’re going through a difficult journey.

‘In football, this can happen. We are young, we have a new manager with new ideas \[who has been at Chelsea\] for only eight months. We can improve results and in general we are doing well. In football, we need time to settle and these last weeks we have played well – like against Aston Villa – but we didn’t get the result.

‘But against Southampton, we played well, got confidence \[from the win\] and tomorrow is another opportunity for that heading into the last part of the season. It is a good moment to show we are ready to fight for big things.’
