On Android, Google allows people to track their loved ones using Google Maps. However, the ideal place for it to offer this feature is Find My Device. With that, people will be able to track their family and friends, devices, and items from one place. Well, the idea has finally struck Google and it has now added a People tab to Find My Device.
Earlier this week, Google released March 2025 Pixel Drop, a software update for Pixel devices that adds new features. One of the new features it brings is the Find My Family and Friends option in the Find My Device app. As the name suggests, this option allows you to share your location with your loved ones or track them in the Find My Device app.
Google Find My Device gets People tab
In a video demonstrating the new features, Google shows that Find My Device now has Devices and People tabs at the bottom of the screen. Tapping on the former will show you all your Android, Wear OS, and Google-related devices. Whereas, selecting the latter will allow you to share your location with your loved ones or track them on a map.

The People tab gives you two options, Sharing with you and You’re sharing with, as well as, an icon with a plus symbol. Selecting the first option will show you a list of people who are sharing their location with you. Tapping on the second option will show you a list of people with whom you are sharing your location. Whereas, tapping the plus icon will let you share your location with people in your contacts list.
Once you select a person from the list of people sharing their location with you, you will be able to see their location, their phone’s battery percentage, how long ago their location was updated, and give you an option to Get directions to them. If you are sharing your location with them as well, the screen will also give you an option to Stop sharing your location with your loved ones. All of this looks very user friendly.
Find My Family and Friends in Find My Device is coming to all Android devices
Since the Find My Device app is available only for Android, the new feature works only with Android devices. As such, Google may retain Google Maps’ feature for sharing your location because in addition to Android, it also works with iOS. Although this feature is a part of March 2025 Pixel Drop, Google will reportedly expand it to all Android devices, probably with an update to the Find My Device app.
