Exclusive: Nottingham Forest want EFL striker with 16 goal contributions this season

Nottingham Forest News understands that the Reds are among the Premier League clubs fighting it out for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent.

The American striker is set to leave the Canaries if Premier League football isn’t secured at Carrow Road, with Evangelos Marinakis desperately keen to add a new striker in the summer.

Sargent has been in fine form since checking in at Norwich from Werder Bremen in 2021. He did manage one season playing in the Premier League for the Carrow Road outfit but scored just twice in 26 appearances.

The Championship version of Sargent has grown as a player, however. In 87 second tier outings, he’s bagged 40 goals and claimed nine assists, with 16 of those contributions coming during the 2024/25 campaign.

Now, it looks as though Forest have made steps to watch Sargent in action, with a host of Premier League clubs seemingly considering a swoop for him when the season draws to a close.

Nottingham Forest send scouts to watch Norwich star Josh Sargent

Nottingham Forest News understands, through Graeme Bailey, that Forest have sent scouts to watch Sargent during the current season.

He told us: “Forest, as we know from January, are looking to bolster their attacking options and they are one of the clubs to have watched Josh Sargent. Forest are one of those clubs who have numerous targets and much will depend on where they finish – if they’re in a Champions League spot, it could be that their ambitions and targets are somewhat different.”

It’s not clear at this stage what fee it would take to prise Sargent away from Norwich this summer, although they will want a substantial sum for their top talisman.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Sargent is only 25-years-old and it’s the type of signing that does actually feel like one that fits in with the ethos of what the Reds are trying to do when it comes to transfers these days.

Forest will target Yoane Wissa in the summer

Another striker who is firmly on the radar for the summer is Brentford player Wissa, with Forest rejected by Brentford during the January window.

Wissa remained coy on the Forest links but he’s fooling nobody. If the Bees don’t make Europe this season and Forest do, the move to the City Ground becomes an attractive one for the striker.

The 28-year-old is a little bit older than Sargent but perhaps crucially, Wissa has played more games and scored more goals in the Premier League than the Norwich frontman.

The Telegraph claimed that Wissa will remain a target in the summer. Whether Brentford will sell to Forest after the Brennan Johnson situation from 18 months ago remains to be seen, although it doesn’t look to be stopping the Reds from trying.

It would appear as though Forest will be doing some serious scouring for strikers in the summer but for now, achieving the best possible finish on the pitch is the sole focus of the football club.
