He left Leicester City for Chelsea, now he’s played just 31 minutes of league football in…

Leicester City and Chelsea face off in a Premier League meeting on Sunday but one former star won’t be playing for either side.

The Foxes go into the match looking to put an end to a run of 11 defeats in their last 12 Premier League matches.

That’s going to be easier said than done, however, given Chelsea are up in fifth place and one of the highest-scoring sides in the division.

Leicester City are already five points adrift of safety and another defeat this weekend could prove enough to be the final nail in their survival coffin.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are in better form of late and have, on paper at least, a much easier meeting on Saturday when they play host to Everton.

Given their woeful form right now, Leicester fans probably wish they had a couple of their former players back at the King Power Stadium, several of whom were sold to Chelsea.

Former Leicester City star struggling for Premier League minutes

Probably the most famous and most successful deal between the two clubs saw N’Golo Kante join Chelsea in 2016.

The Frenchman won the Premier League with the Foxes the season before and went on to clinch another league title and the Champions League at Stamford Bridge.

However, while Kante’s deal was a great move for the player, one former Leicester ace has not had the best time since swapping the Midlands for West London.

Ben Chilwell joined Chelsea in August 2020 in a deal worth somewhere around the £50m mark.

He has played 107 games for the Blues, but 11 different injury/fitness problems during his time at Stamford Bridge greatly impacted his ability to play consistent football.

After Enzo Maresca froze out Chilwell earlier this season, the left-back has now joined Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of 2024/25.

But even with the Eagles, the Englishman is not playing regularly, being left on the bench in their last Premier League fixture and notching just 31 minutes of action in his two previous league outings for them.

What Ben Chiwell said about leaving Leicester City

Chiwell began his career with the Foxes and began to cement himself as a regular feature in their senior side following a loan spell with Huddersfield Town.

After leaving Leicester in August 2020, he released a statement on social media, as per Leicestershire Live.

He wrote: “To everyone at LCFC, I would like to say a massive thank you for these last 11 years. I have grown not just as a player but as a person also.

“I’m so thankful for the memories and opportunities this club has given me. I will never forget the experience of being with the boys when we won the league in 2016, making my debut, fulfilling my dream of playing in the Premier League and also playing in the Champions League.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance and support of everyone at the club. I have made friends I will stay in contact with for the rest of my life and although a tough decision, I’m really excited for the next step in my career.”

Chilwell has since won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea.
