“He owns this match”–Press in awe of Arsenal player after PSV mauling, described as‘utter humiliation’

Arsenal picked up a historic 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League this week.

Goals from Ethan Nwaneri, Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino, Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori completed a rout, pretty much placing Mikel Arteta’s side in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Odegaard was perhaps the most impressive during the game, grabbing a brace and an assist.

Praise for the midfielder has now arrived from the Norwegian press. Commentator Endre Olav Osnes spoke about Odegaard during Arsenal’s game and he said, as relayed by Dagbladet:

“He owns this match completely.”

Osnes further said: “Those are tennis numbers, it’s almost like you have to rub your eyes.”

He described the result as ‘utter humiliation’ and Dagbladet also go on to praise Odegaard further, hailing how the Norway international didn’t give up until the final whistle and that helped Arsenal seal a spot in the next round.

The 26-year-old now has five goals and seven assists in all competitions this season. While he has had a dry spell in the Premier League, his performance this week showed how well he can do when on song.

Injuries have held his progress back this season but Arsenal fans will know that a fit and firing Odegaard can do wonders for them. His form could be vital to where the Gunners finish this season.
