This season has been Spurs worst start since 2008-09 when after 26 games they were in 14th position, they eventually finished in 8th position. After 27 games this season, they find themselves in 13th position after 27 games, AFCB are in 7th place with 43 points.

In the form table after their last four games, Spurs are 3rd in the table, AFCB are 16th. But at home after last four games, Spurs are in 15th place. AFCB after the same number of games away are in 7th.

At home in the league since we played Spurs at Dean Court in December, they have beaten Manchester United 1-0. Drawn 2-2 with Wolves and lost 3-4 against Chelsea, 3-6 with Liverpool, 1-2 against both Newcastle United and Leicester City and the last home game 0-1 against Manchester City. Away from home they have W 3, D 0, L 3.

The last time our two sides met in an away game was on Sunday, December 31st 2023. Pape Sarr opened the scoring for Spurs early in the first half and that remained the score at halftime. In the second half Spurs went further ahead with Son Heung-Min scoring in the 71st minute, and nine minutes later Richarlison made it 3-0. With six minutes of normal time left, Alex Scott scored a consolation goal for the Cherries.

In our away games against Spurs, AFCB have W 1, D 0, L 6.

In all competitions, AFCB has W 4, D 2, and L 10.

Spurs Team News

Christian Romero, Micky van de Ven expected to be fit for our game. Dominic Solanke and Richarlison may be available. Latest injury is to Dejan Kulusevski, who it seems will miss the game on Sunday. They have an Europa game on Thursday night.

Spurs Player To Watch

James Maddison strong all round player, joint leading scorer with 9 goals and has 5 assists. Brennan Johnson has also scored 9 goals. Son Heung-Min has scored 6 goals but is top with 9 assists. Dominic Solanke if he plays, has 7 goals.

AFCB Team News

Illia Zabarnyi misses this game, as it’s his third and last game suspended. Will Ryan Christie and maybe one or two others be fit to return?

AFCB Player To Watch

Justin Kluivert, our leading scorer with 12 goals, though a number from the penalty spot, has been in good form recently. Antoine Semenyo has been a constant danger to opposition defences and Evanilson is back and always a threat leading the line.

The Referee

John Brooks is in charge of this game. He has taken two of our games this season, Everton at home and also away in the FA Cup.

I’ve looked at the last 4 league games for Spurs. They had two home games (Man U and Man C) and two away games (Brentford and Ipswich). Spurs have gained 9 points, although appeared fortunate to beat Brentford in that run. Spurs have scored 7 goals and conceded 2 with xG estimating 6.13 goals and 6.85 respectively, so the Spurs goal has been leading a charmed life.

Spurs have had 5 goal scorers (Johnson with 2, four players with 1 each and an own goal). Son has 4 assists and three players have 1 each.

The average positions of the starting line-ups are below. It seems hard to read into these positions as there is no clear pattern. It was with the most defensive line ups (at Brentford and Ipswich) that Spurs scored 6 of their 7 goals.

The following plot compares summary stats of Spurs and AFCB over the last 4 games.

Goal attempts per game are even, although AFCB have more big chances, but score fewer goals. Spurs have conceded more goal attempts per game, although they have conceded fewer big chances and noticeably less goals. Spurs have the better xG stats, both offensively and defensively. AFCB have made more errors than Spurs (4 vs 2).

Spurs have a marginally better possession percentage and a higher pass completion rate. AFCB have a higher proportion of chances from open play and also a higher proportion of chances conceded from open play.

Not going to easy this one as Spurs annoyingly seem to be hitting a little bit of form (by their standards). That said them playing away on Thursday might help so let’s see. Hopefully at least a draw. Don’t think there will be as many goals in this as some might think. – To join this conversation, please click here.
