Report: Wolves could battle Bruno Lage to sign £31m Manchester United player for free this…

Wolves are undoubtedly set for a busy summer in the transfer market.

It has been a season of struggle for Wolves, although fans hope that there will be a positive end to the campaign under Vitor Pereira.

Relegation is still a possibility right now.

Wolves are five points clear of the drop zone, but that could easily get cut down, and Wolves have also lost Matheus Cunha for the next few games.

The ideal scenario is that Wolves retain their Premier League status, which will allow them to do more in terms of transfers this summer.

There have already been some links to players, and now, there has been a claim that Wolves could move for a Manchester United player whose contract is about to expire.

It’s been reported by Caught Offside that a battle could break out over Victor Lindelof this summer, with the Manchester United defender set to leave on a free.

The Sweden international has not held talks with the Red Devils about an extension. So at the moment, he is set to become a free agent. This, after United splashed £31 million on him in 2017 (BBC Sport).

And that has placed several sides on alert, including Wolves.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Interestingly, one other club that is interested in Lindelof is Benfica, who are managed by former Wanderers head coach Bruno Lage.

Lindelof, of course, is a former Benfica player, which could make things complicated for Wolves. Benfica are also keen to sign Nelson Semedo at the moment.

But then there is further interest from the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.

Premier League clubs West Ham United and Everton are also said to be keen.

Wolves should steer clear of Lindelof

Just because you maybe can, doesn’t mean you should.

While there is some appeal to signing Lindelof given his status as a soon-to-be-free agent, the reality is that he has not been a regular for United this season.

In fact, he has not started a single Premier League game so far this term. This is partly because he’s had an injury-ravaged campaign.

Appearances – 11

Minutes played – 407

Lindelof has made 270 appearances for the Red Devils across an eight-year spell. But arguably, he has never really blown people away in that time.

Wolves don’t particularly need him either, with Santiago Bueno a similar player to him and then there are other options at Molineux in the form of Emmanuel Agbadou, Matt Doherty, Nasser Djiga, and Toti Gomes. Yerson Mosquera will also be an option again next season.

Then, there are youngsters Alfie Pond and Bastien Meupiyou who may make their mark next term.
